With a working history including 4 years’ Hospitality Recruitment experience, concurrently owning and operating 3 Michelin Guide listed restaurants, and working in restaurants up to 1* Michelin level, Emma brings a wealth of knowledge to the Tonic team. Emma is a communicative and honest Account Manager to her Clients as well as working closely with Candidates with whom she works to carve a direct career path aligned with their career aspirations.
Emma was 14 when she first worked at the local pub helping to serve Christmas dinners; she loved the buzz and the banter back of house and continued to work in hospitality part time throughout her education, this included events companies, hotels, restaurants and even a Bingo hall. In 2005 Emma took her first permanent role at Weston Park in Staffordshire as an Assistant Butler, where working in every department on a beautiful estate cemented her confidence that a career in hospitality was for her.
In 2006 Emma moved to Birmingham to study a master’s in Hospitality Business Management at Birmingham College of Food; whilst studying Emma worked at Simpsons 1* Michelin Restaurant where she first met Conrad. Once Emma had successfully completed her master’s degree she moved to Cambridge to be part of the opening team for a new fine dining restaurant, Alimentum, which went on to gain a Michelin star. Emma was inspired to start her own restaurant and opened Casa Ruiz in 2009, this followed quickly in 2010 with Casa Naranjo, then Don Diego in 2012, El Borracho de Oro in 2015 and Migas Tapas in 2018.
Having successfully operated her own businesses, Emma has had a huge range of experiences within Hospitality and when making the decision to take her next step, joining Tonic was a clear choice. Emma is able to share what she has learnt to help others achieve successes. She recruits across all industry sectors and has a huge national network of candidates and clients to draw upon to strengthen the lasting partnerships that Tonic’s approach is based upon.
Emma is a fluent Spanish speaker who enjoys nothing more than spending time with her Children (which owning and operating two restaurants made very difficult). Emma loves finding new places to eat, visiting Art galleries, especially if there are ancient exhibitions on. She also loves being out in the countryside and taking long walks
