Tonic are assisting University College Birmingham in their search for an Assistant General Manager to open and then run services alongside the General Manager at Beyond, their new restaurant in Birmingham City Centre. Beyond is a commercial restaurant. It is not a training site and you will not be teaching. The room runs an all-day offering built around excellent coffee from the morning, then switches at 17:00 into an evening of serious food and a proper drinks list. As Assistant General Manager you are the person holding both together, on the floor through the changeover, running the operation in the GM’s absence, and taking a real share of the rotas, the recruitment and the weekly numbers. It is a genuine number two role with somewhere to go next.

What are we looking for from Assistant General Manager candidates?

• Experience as an Assistant General Manager or a senior Assistant Manager in a quality-led restaurant
• Confident running a full day of trade on your own, from open to close
• Strong on rotas, stock and cost control, and happy to be measured on them
• Able to hold the same standard across two very different services in one day
• A leader people want to work for, with the retention to back it up
• Credible with coffee and drinks as well as with food
• Available across a seven day operation, including evenings and weekends
