Barista | Birmingham | £13.50 per hour + tronc

What’s in it for the successful Barista?

  • £13.50 per hour, approximately £31,590 per annum based on 45 hours per week
  • Plus tronc on top of your hourly rate
  • 45 hours per week, permanent
  • 28 days holiday including bank holidays, rising by a day for every year of service
  • 5% contributory pension, and Wagestream so you can draw your pay as you earn it
  • Staff meal on duty and staff discounts
  • A coffee programme that is central to the business, not a machine in the corner of a restaurant
  • Proper kit, and a Bar Manager who takes the coffee as seriously as the drinks list
  • Funded training and development behind a university, including latte art, extraction and dialling in
  • A group of sites to progress through
  • Post-placement support from Tonic

Tonic are searching for a Barista to join Beyond, University College Birmingham’s new all-day restaurant and coffee offer in Birmingham City Centre. Beyond is a commercial site. It is not a training site and you will not be teaching. The daytime here is built around the coffee. It is the reason people come in before 17:00, which means the grind, the dial in and what lands on the bar actually matter to the business rather than being tolerated by it. You will be part of the opening team, working to a programme you can help shape, with the funding behind it to buy the right beans and the right kit.

What are we looking for from Barista candidates?

  • Barista experience in a speciality or quality-led coffee setting
  • Confident dialling in, adjusting through the day and tasting as you go
  • Consistent milk technique and latte art
  • Comfortable holding standards through a full day of trade
  • Genuinely interested in coffee, and happy to keep learning
  • Available across a seven day operation, including weekends
